The Woman in Black- 2012

The Woman in Black's opening title sequence consists of music to set the eerie mood, which makes the audience feel uncomfortable. The scene also shows 3 young girls, which represents innocence and as well as that it's set in a home, which is using Wes Craven's theory of safe place, as nothing would happen at home, because it's seen somewhere where people are free to do what they want, in the comfort of their home. However it's also using Carol Carol's theory of setting it in a terrible place, as the mansion is seen as old and decaying.
In addition the music suits the build up of the scene, because as the music gradually gets louder it matches what the girls are about to do. There is a mix of non diegetic sounds as well as diegetic sounds, because you could here the clanking of the tea cups, as well as the music playing in the background. (AT)

Sinister - 2012

The opening title sequence of Sinister starts with a black screen and a non dietetic sound of a camera rolling, and this is used the whole way through the opening sequence. The scene then goes on to show four people hung by their neck on a tree. There's an effect used to bleach out the colours and make it look darker, this is also an example colour correcting.
(The shot uses slow motion to make it more effective as it stresses the audience because we know what's coming up next. As the colour of the effect is dark and sinister, it shows how the mood of the scene is linked to what's actually happening in the scene.
The title of the film comes on in the end, which you can see on the photo on the right, comes right in the end of the opening sequence so the audience know what film they're watching.  (AT)

Insidious 2- 2013

As Insidious 2  is a sequel to Insidious. The 2nd film was released in 2013, and at the start of the opening sequence, the film carries on from where it left of in the first film. The scene starts after Rene find the photo Elise took before she was strangled to death by the ghost who was now in physical form. The scene then goes on to an interrogation, where there is a mixture of non diegetic and diegetic sounds.

The scene also uses Carol Clover's theory of the final girl, as his wife Rene survives the whole way through, even though he nearly kills her. There's also an effect used, to colour correct the scene and make it look more eerie and dark, to suit the mood the film.
In addition Carol Clovers theory about killers having childhood issues, which is one of the reasons they do what they do. In This film Josh was posses by ghost Parker Crane, who had issues with his mother, because she always wanted him to dress up as a girl.
